Time For China!

Category: Indie, alternative, electro

Time for China are an Alternative/Indie/Electro band from Manchester UK.

’Not confining themselves to any particular genre or style of writing, the songs are allowed to develop characters of their own instead of being forced like a square peg into a round hole to make them sell. The band are not afraid to be taken the wrong way by misguided critics who might mistake catchy for commercial. Definitely more refreshing than most of the current crop of bands, time for china are more interested in establishing their own original sound than becoming the next ‘Arctic Mancys’.

They’re worth checking out!

Mariday!

Category: Acoustic, alternative, electro, folk

Mariday are an Alternative/Progressive female duo from New York. Their music fuses catchy melodies, heartfelt lyrics and dreamy instrumentations with a great vocal delivery, which shows a likeness to artists such as K.T Tunstall and Beth Gibbons (of Portishead). I was hooked instantly to these girls, and I think they have a great deal of potential!

Mike Dawes!

Category: Acoustic, Experimental, alternative

Mike Dawes is an Acoustic/Alternative artist from Surrey, UK. He plays acoustic/semi/electric guitar, and the most popular of these styles is laying a guitar on his lap and playing without strumming, much like a piano or keyboard. The music he writes and performs is very visual and through a long string of live shows, you can see has a very broad appeal, not just with guitarists, but to all musicians and music fans alike. You should definitely listen to this guy if you want to hear something new!

Midgar!

Category: Progressive, alternative, rock

Midgar are an exciting new band from Guildford, bringing musicians from very established backgrounds into an outfit capable of creating sounds like no other on the scene today. Already compared to the epic melodic grace of Fightstar, Midgar built their sound on four part vocal harmony, big open chords and brutal beatdowns that challenge the might of the heaviest bands. They are currently booking shows around the UK, so make sure you catch this band live as soon as you can!

Buffalo Alice!

Category: alternative, rock

Buffalo Alice was formed by singer/songwriter Alex Aaron in the spring of 2004 from the ashes of alternative rock band G.B. Fuzz. Aaron started writing new songs and reworking old ones to make them friendly to an acoustic act under the new name. After many hours doing some collaborating with different musicians, he has arrived at the sound that is Buffalo Alice. Their brand of power pop based alternative-country rock and ballads have a distinctly southern flavor to them, yet remain unmarred by the normal images that spring to mind when someone thinks of southern music. They’re definitely one to watch.
